Army of Darkness 1992 | R | Comedy, Horror | d. Sam Raimi Bruce Campbell, Embeth Davidtz, Marcus Gilbert | |
| Written by Sam Rami and his brother Ivan, Army of Darkness is the third installment in their Evil Dead series. Bruce Campbell stars as Ash Williams – an egotistical reject of the modern world, who finds himself trapped in the Middle Ages where he must battle a legion of the undead, save a local village and find a way back to his own time. Those who haven’t seen the first two Evil Dead films will be quickly caught up with a brief flashback that explains how, for example, Ash got his trademark chainsaw prosthetic. But it’ll take more than a chainsaw arm to overcome the risen dead and Ash’s evil mirror twin. With all the blowhard skill he can muster, the “good” Ash unites the humans in a final battle for the Dark Ages. With special effects that hearken back to the heyday of Ray Harryhausen, comedy that plays as an homage to the Three Stooges and Danny Elfman’s creatively cool score, Army of Darkness comes by it’s cult following honestly. “Sure, I coulda stayed. I could have been a King. But in my own way I am a King. Hail to the King, baby!” Ash Williams, S-Mart Checkout Clerk - Ann Horak | ||
