| Oscar nominated for its cinematography and directed by Carroll Ballard (whose resume includes The Black Stallion) Fly Away Home takes to the air with the greatest of ease. Young Amy has lost her mother in an auto accident, and has to move to Canada to live with her slightly eccentric father, played by Jeff Daniels. Her new life isn’t going well until she discovers a nest of goose eggs that have been abandoned due to a new housing development.
