| Filmed in B&W in Larry McMurtry’s home town of Archer City, Texas, The Last Picture Show elegizes the narrowing hopes and dreams of a group of high school friends in the 1950s, each of whom is constricted by life in a small Texas town, where the struggling economy can no longer support a cinema. Directed by Peter Bogdanovich (who will present the film at this year’s Plaza Classic), Picture Show introduced a new generation of actors, including Jeff Bridges, Timothy Bottoms, Cybill Shepherd, and Randy Quaid. With superb supporting performances by veteran Ben Johnson and not-quite newcomers Cloris Leachman and Ellen Burstyn. - TS | ||
